Frequently Asked Questions
Does insurance cover cosmetic procedures?
Some procedures are covered by insurance, but coverage varies depending on the particular health insurance provider. We recommend checking with your insurance company. New England Plastic Surgery does provide a financing plan that will help in giving you an option for your procedure.
How do I know if cosmetic surgery is right for me?
The decision to have cosmetic surgery is a very personal one. You must consider several factors, including your state of mind, your motivations for the surgery, your goals and any risks associated with the particular procedure. You should not expect cosmetic surgery to change your life. A cosmetic procedure will help enhance your looks, but you should be emotionally ready to deal with those changes.
Who is a good candidate for cosmetic surgery?
A good candidate for surgery must be healthy, both physically and mentally. Although cosmetic surgery is done on an outpatient basis, you may require general anesthesia. While today's anesthesia is extremely safe, for your safety, we must first ensure that your physical condition is optimal.
Where do you perform the procedures?
All procedures are performed at Jordan Hospital. Details and directions can be found here.
How soon will I see results?
When results are visible depends on the type of procedure you are having done. With some procedures, you will see results in just days. With others, the healing process will take longer and therefore results will be visible later.
Will there be a lot of swelling or bruising?
Many factors affect swelling and bruising: age, type of procedure and your physical characteristics. Our office will give you post-operative instructions to reduce swelling and bruising, but each person will heal differently.
Breast Augmentation:
What is the difference between a breast lift and breast augmentation?
A breast lift reshapes and repositions the breasts to reduce sagging. Breast augmentation surgically increases breast size by placing implants behind the breast.
Will the implants be noticeable or will they look natural?
The goal of breast augmentation is to make your breast look as natural as possible. The doctor will position the implants to make them less noticeable to the touch. Choosing the correct amount of increased volume for your body type will also make the implants look natural.
Breast Reduction:
How soon will I see an improvement after breast reduction surgery?
The improvement is immediate. However, you will experience some recovery time, as this is major surgery.
Facial Rejuvenation:
What is a modern facelift?
Unlike the old facelift, which involved tightening the skin, a modern facelift is a type of rejuvenation surgery that repositions facial muscles and reduces excess skin to noticeably improve your facial appearance.
Will there be scarring after a facial rejuvenation procedure?
There is some scarring after this type of surgery; however, keeping the incisions small and positioned in a way that makes them less visible minimizes it. The doctor will typically prescribe topical creams to help reduce the appearance of scars.
Liposculpture:
Can I use liposculpture as a substitute for losing weight?
No, liposculpture is not a substitute for losing weight. It is a method used to shape your body's contours. In fact, you may need to lose excess weight before you undergo a liposculpture procedure.
Will liposcuplture eliminate cellulite?
No. Cellulite occurs because of looseness in the connective tissue, and not because of excess fat. Some liposculpture procedures may improve the appearance of cellulite, but will not eliminate it.
Abdominoplasty:
Who is the best candidate for abdominoplasty?
Someone who is in good shape but cannot seem to lose excess tissue around the abdomen with diet or exercise is a good candidate. Remember, abdominoplasty is not a substitute for weight loss.
How long will the results of abdominoplasty last?
The results of this procedure are long lasting, and if the patient takes care in his or her diet and exercise regimen, should last permanently.
Botox/Dermal Fillers:
How long can I expect to stay wrinkle-free after a Botox or Dermal Fillers treatment?
Neither of these treatments is permanent but results can last several months.
Which is a better choice to eliminate small wrinkles around the eyes, Botox or Dermal Fillers?
Botox is best used to treat areas where wrinkles are caused by repetitive muscular movements, such as frowning or squinting. Dermal Fillers is an injectable filler, and can be used to plump up areas where there has been a loss of volume. The doctor will determine which is the best solution for you.
Nose and Ear Reshaping:
Can rhinoplasty really improve my appearance?
Yes, an adjustment made to the shape of your nose impacts the overall harmony of your face.
What are the risks of rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a common surgical procedure, and some risks such as nosebleeds or infection are always possible.
